Deep Fried in the South

I am madly in love with the fall season. As the calendar flips a new quarter, it becomes an enjoyable time of year in Texas for many reasons - crisp mornings with days less that 100 degrees, light jackets, college football, and the State Fair of Texas. I am fortunate enough to have a boyfriend who equally enjoys my love of fried food, exhibit shopping, and carnival rides. We usually celebrate the fair each year by stuffing our faces and walking til our legs ache and we run out of money. This year was no exception.

After a good night of partying in downtown Dallas for OU/TX weekend and drowning our sorrows in as many beers as we could consume, we crashed in a tiny hotel room way too small for about 10 people. Still cramped from a few hours of sleep in the fetal position, we made a day of the fair.

Today I ate:
  • Fletcher's Corn Dog
  • Corn of the Cob
  • Fried Banana Split
  • Fire and Ice
  • Chicken Fried Bacon
  • Fried Guacamole
  • Fried Queso

I would say it was a light eating day compared to years past at the fair. Nonetheless, I enjoyed every bit of it. The judges were correct - Chicken Fried Bacon was the winner of the day. Fried bacon with a crisp battered crust and a side of ranch seems a natural. Why had no one thought of this before? Although, I did feel my heart slowing down for a minute, the 2008 fair winner didn't disappoint. Fried banana split was a rip off and Fire and Ice was overrated. Unfortunately, I had to go without a turkey leg and candy apple this year - there just wasn't any room left in my belly.

I anxiously await next years fried treats.
